Christmas dinner is a good time to socialize with family, friends or company members. But it may be that either you barely know each other and don’t know what to talk about, or you don’t want to make a boring memory out of that meeting, or you don’t know how to liven up a company dinner.
Luckily there are many funny games that can be played at a Christmas dinner. If you have no idea how you can entertain yourself and have a great time, we bring you a series of fun games for Christmas dinner . That you enjoy them!
The game of the wolf or “the town sleeps”
Also called “the town sleeps”, this mythical game is one of the best-known family dinner games. This board game can be played using just pen and paper.
What is the wolf game?
It is a role-playing game in which, first, some roles are distributed . At Christmas dinner you can write by hand, fold the papers, put them in a container and have each person take one:
- The wolf or wolves : there can be up to 2 or 3, depending on the number of people at Christmas dinner.
- The people : the vast majority.
- The hunter : this person must try to catch the wolf.
- The narrator : this will be the person in charge of giving orders.
However, this Christmas desktop game has as many versions as there are roles available , such as the witch, who can resurrect and kill someone only once, or the girl, who can see everything. Still, in each version the same characters can play different roles, you can even invent new rules yourselves. Even so, we present you the basic game.
The rules of the game
Once the roles have been distributed, one of the games to play on Christmas night begins:
- To start the game, the narrator will have to say “the town sleeps” . At that moment, all the participants must close their eyes, including the wolf and the hunter.
- Immediately afterwards, the narrator will say “the wolf wakes up” . Next, the wolf opens its eyes and must point to someone. The designated person will instantly become dead without even knowing it. At the end, the narrator will say “the wolf falls asleep” , and he closes his eyes again. In case there is more than one wolf, there will be more than one death.
- Afterwards, the narrator will say “the hunter wakes up” . He will open his eyes and will have to point out who/whom he thinks he is the wolf/wolves. The narrator will tell him by shaking his head whether or not he is the wolf. If it fails, the narrator will say “the hunter falls asleep” .
- Then, the narrator will say “everyone wakes up except…” and names the dead person or dead. At that moment, a consensus must be generated and everyone decides who is the wolf. If they fail, the game continues and step number 1 is repeated.
The game ends when the wolf or wolves are caught . Another even cheaper way to play the wolf is for someone to go one by one saying what role they should play: whether to play the village, the wolf or the hunter, for example. Of course, the person who is saying the roles of one of the fun Christmas games, must also choose her own role before starting to distribute them.
The game of imitating someone
This is another great classic, one of the fun games for company dinners. It can be played in two ways : either by imitating someone from Christmas dinner, or by imitating a famous character.
How to play
Suppose you will play to imitate each other:
- The names of all the participants will be written on paper that will later be folded and placed in a container.
- The roles are distributed. If someone has touched her own name, it is not worth not saying it! Otherwise the game would lose its fun. In such a case, the paper would be returned to the container and another paper would be taken.
- From that moment on, everyone must get into the skin of the person who has touched them, not only in attitude, but also in the way they speak or in the topics of conversation they bring up.
- As the game progresses, you will have to try to figure out who is imitating you .
If you want to liven up one of the games for the Christmas table a little more, you can take a shot every time you fail . Of course… it’s not worth failing on purpose!
The mission game
Another of the best games for Christmas is, without a doubt, the mission game. For this game, the ideal is to know all the participants of the Christmas dinner well. Before starting dinner, each one will be assigned a mission that they must try to achieve before the end of dinner, yes, without the others knowing what their mission is. Whoever does it will be rewarded in some way. They can be crazy things, such as:
- Getting a cheapskate to leave you money.
- Getting to kiss someone.
- Getting someone to drink more than X drinks (even if they don’t want to drink more).
- Get someone to dance or sing (if they are embarrassed, better).
- Getting someone to sniff your armpit.
The imagination here has no limits. You can put the funniest and most daring missions that you can think of. The laughs you will have will be priceless.
Apart from rewarding whoever manages to complete the mission, you can also add more spice to the matter: if someone guesses another person’s mission, that person will have to go through some ridiculous situation , such as running out of dessert or having to make a striptess in front of everyone (taking off only some clothing).
The game of explanations
Another of the best fun games for company dinners or dinners with friends is dedicated to lovers of the mythical “Dark Lord” . On this occasion, we bring you this very similar idea and without the need to use cards.
How to play
- One person has to play the narrator. He or she will have to ask for explanations about some fictitious situation, such as: “This morning I woke up and I was completely bald. What happened?” At that time, he must choose someone to start giving the explanation.
- The person who starts to excuse himself has to do it without hesitating at any time. He can pass the turn to another person whenever he wants, saying things like “but I saw so and so in that place, keep counting him / her”.
- The other person should keep making excuses, following the thread of the story. There is also the option of someone interrupting you and telling you that that is not what happened.
- The narrator can also interrupt and ask the speaker for other kinds of explanations.
- If someone is left wondering how to answer, stop playing.
- Finally, the game ends when only one player remains.
Add extras
Other rules or extras can be added to it, such as putting many papers in a container with strange words . When it is someone’s turn, they must take 4 or 5 pieces of paper and use those words to continue excusing themselves. You cannot finish the excuse until you say all the words, unless someone interrupts you.
Sing carols
Another of the games for the Christmas desktop with family or friends is to sing Christmas carols. This popular game can be played using pen and paper. Take note!
How to play
- The first thing to do is write random words on small pieces of paper.
- Next, two teams must be made.
- One of the two teams begins to draw a piece of paper. So, they must sing a Christmas carol with the word that is written on the piece of paper they have taken.
- The other team must do the same. The team that doesn’t run out of singing wins!
The important thing is to use your imagination and, thus, have a great time with others.
