Building a gaming PC from scratch can be somewhat complicated with so many components and brands that exist on the market… Of course, what we want at all costs is a fluid computer that offers us good graphics and a high level of playability .

Like everything, the better the components, the greater the outlay that must be made, although by making the right choice you can equip your gaming PC with good elements without spending more than necessary .

If you are interested in building a gaming PC or you want to improve the one you already have, keep reading, because I am going to show you some key aspects about the necessary components and how to make a good choice according to your budget .

List of PC Gamer components: how to choose them?

It is the brain of the entire system, since it is in charge of solving and executing tasks . Through it pass all the orders that are requested, so its response must be very fast.

Taking into account the demands of today’s video games, the need for a more powerful processor is increasing

Although these are some important features that you must have:

  • The more cores, the better.
  • The clock speed must be high , in addition to allowing overclocking.
  • Let it be last generation. Although a cheaper option is to look for a processor that is, at most, 3 generations older than the most recent .
  • Make it compatible with controllers with the motherboard.

Graphic card

The GPU is a key component in a PC Gamer, since it is in charge of processing the graphics and displaying sharp and quality images , offering us a satisfactory gaming experience.

Choosing a graphics card depends on several factors, such as the resolution you play at, the type of games you like, the performance of the other components, and your budget.

But other aspects that you should take into account are:

  • Have a good cooling system to prevent burning.
  • It must incorporate a large VRAM memory (at least 4GB).

The choice of the graphics card must also be in line with the processor and RAM. It is useless to have a powerful graphics card, if the processor and RAM do not measure up and create a bottleneck.

Monitor Gaming

Gaming monitors are specifically designed to display images and videos with the best quality and clarity without delays.

If you want to game like a pro, keep these things in mind to make a good monitor choice:

  • There must be a relationship between the monitor and the GPU , since there is no point in having a high-end GPU if the monitor cannot take advantage of its full capacity and vice versa.
  • Most monitors feature FHD resolution, ensuring exceptional viewing. However, there are other possibilities until reaching 4K quality .
  • To play fairly smoothly and without stuttering, consider a monitor with a refresh rate of 120Hz or higher.
  • Make sure the response speed is 1ms to 5ms .
  • You should check if it has G-Sync – FreeSync technology . These are 2 systems designed by NVIDIA and AMD to avoid cuts or interruptions while you play.

It is another of the most important elements of the PC, since it is the place where all the components communicate and interconnect with each other.

The configuration of the components that we are going to need revolves around the motherboard, so you should consider the following factors:

  • The motherboard socket and chipset must be compatible with the processor you choose.
  • Make sure you choose a chipset that allows you to take advantage of each component (overclock, cooling, VRMs) and that has good compatibility with future processors .
  • The RAM memory cards and the slots on the motherboard must be of the same type (both DDR4 type, for example).
  • AMD CrossFire or NVIDIA SLI: This technology allows up to 4 GPUs to be used on the same PC. This is correlated to your choice of chipset, you won’t be able to run 2 GPUs simultaneously if your motherboard chipset doesn’t support it .
  • If you can get a motherboard with a PCIe 4.0 connection for the SSD , you will be able to run your games in the shortest possible time.
  • You should choose a motherboard that has enough ports and connections to connect all the peripherals you need.

Here I leave you one of the most recommended options: the ASUS ROGv Crosshair VIII Hero.

RAM memory

RAM memory has the capacity to store data and instructions that come from the processor temporarily . The information is then transmitted very quickly.

Keep in mind that the more GB the RAM has, the higher the transmission speed of that information, increasing the performance of the entire computer.

There are different types of RAM memory: DDR3, DDR4, DDR5, etc. In addition, within each range there are different speeds (4 GB, 8 GB, 16 GB, etc.).

Be sure to check the processor’s specifications and look at the maximum speed of the memory bus it supports, so you know the maximum speed of the RAM you should mount. Similarly, if you check the motherboard’s specifications, you’ll see the type of RAM it supports.

Some recommended options are Corsair Vengeance LPX RAM cards for Inter and HyperX Predator RGB for AMD.

The hard drive is responsible for the storage of the PC.

You can store several Terabytes of data on a single drive. It is also one of the components that has evolved the most in the last decade.

There are 2 types of storage drives, HDDs and Solid State Drives (SSDs) , the latter are the best sellers because their read and write speed is 4 times faster than traditional HDDs.

In general, I recommend using a 512 GB or 1 TB SSD along with a 2 TB HDD for partitioning, so you can store games on the former , photos, videos, programs or other files on the HDD.

If your motherboard allows it, you can use SSDs with a PCIe M.2 NVMe connection to enjoy better read and write speeds, although you should keep in mind that they are more expensive compared to SATA SSDs.

A recommended HDD is the Seagate BarraCuda 1TB to 4TB and the SSD that is a safe bet is the Samsung 980 Pro 1TB.

Power supply

Without the power of electricity, your PC would not come to life. That is why the power supply is essential, since it is responsible for supplying the electrical current correctly between the components.

It is very important that you opt for a quality power supply, which covers the electrical needs of all the elements in order to avoid failures due to insufficient energy or serious problems in the rest of the hardware, leaving the PC completely unusable.

To choose a good power supply, we must take into account factors such as certification (80 Gold onwards) and power (600 W onwards, depending on the power of the other components) to ensure its efficiency for a long time.

Example of a good quality power supply is the Corsair AX1600i.

Gaming Helmets

Unlike conventional headsets, gaming headsets are designed to completely envelop you during your games so that you can hear even the slightest noise.

They have great sound quality, noise cancellation, integrated microphone, RGB lights and many other interesting features.

But don’t let the lights and its gamer design dazzle you. The most important thing to consider when choosing your ideal gaming headset is comfort and, above all, sound quality .

Cash register

One of the basic elements in any PC is the box in which all the pieces are assembled.

Its objective is not only to house all the components, but to keep them at a good temperature and protected so that they can function correctly.

Make sure you choose a quality, sturdy box with good ventilation and space to prevent all the pieces from being too close together , getting hot and not working properly.

The best thing to do is to get an ATX box (depending on the dimensions of the motherboard and the GPU that you are going to install) since it will give you more space options. In addition, there are models that allow you to install multiple fans and even liquid cooling systems .

A good choice is the Sharkoon Elite Shark CA300T.

They are responsible for keeping the most important components of the PC at an adequate temperature to avoid a decrease in performance and an increase in temperature.

To choose the right fans for your PC, you must take into account the following aspects:

  • It is best to get 4-pin (PWM) airflow fans , as they allow better RPM management as well as greater software control.
  • Ideally, add as many fans as the space in the case and the ports to connect them on the motherboard allow.
  • Make sure you install them correctly and in a position where air flows optimally .
