The American consumer association Consumer Reports has published the latest results of its annual survey of brands for their quality.

It is a work that the veteran magazine of the organization of users of the USA publishes every year: an analysis that classifies the brands based on their own driving tests,  mechanical reliability indices, customer satisfaction and results obtained in safety tests.  

The latest report has established a classification of 32 car brands according to the score obtained according to the criteria established in said investigation, valuing them out of a maximum score of 100 .

The first conclusion is that the Japanese brands in particular and the more generalists collectively outperform the luxury car manufacturers , who are victims of their excessive technology . 

This year the winner has been Subaru , beating last year’s champion Mazda , another small Japanese brand that has also shown a high degree of satisfaction among its owners.

The third step of the podium is occupied by the German brand BMW , and it stands out that the top ten is made up mainly of Japanese manufacturers and completed by firms of European origin. 

Tesla, in reverse   

Tesla car, is an American automotive and energy storage company that develops, produces and sells high-performance electric automobiles, engine and transmission components for electric vehicles, and battery-based products. It has been founded in 2003 by engineers Martin Eberhard and Marc Tarpenning in San Carlos, California. The name is a tribute to the inventor and electrical engineer Nikola Tesla.

This car is a publicly traded private company that trades on the NASDAQ Stock Exchange under the symbol TSLA. In the first quarter of 2013, the car was posting a profit for the first time in its history. In 2016, the brand debuted in the top 10 most valuable automotive brands in the world, with an estimated brand value of US$4.436 billion.

The car was gaining widespread attention after its production of the Tesla Roadster, the first all-electric sports car. The company’s second vehicle is the Model S, an all-electric luxury sedan. His next two vehicles were the Model X and Model 3, respectively. The latter, as well as the Model Y crossover,was launching in 2020, proved to be great sales successes, totaling almost 1 million units sold in 2021, standing out in the European market, where for the first time the best-selling vehicle was electric, Tesla Model 3.

this company is also marketing electrical components such as lithium-ion batteries to construction companies including Daimler and Toyota. Tesla CEO ,who is Elon Musk was saying that Tesla, as an independent car manufacturer, aims to offer affordable electric cars to the middle-class consumer.One of the main conclusions for 2022 is that general brands are prevailing jointly over luxury ones, a finding that coincides with data from another study on the reliability of models published a few days ago by the consulting firm JD Power

Genesis , Volvo , Cadillac or Mercedes are far from the leading positions and what would be expected from premium brands . And according to those responsible for the study, the blame for these results would be excessively complex technological equipment that generates faults that are difficult to diagnose and with functions whose handling is complex for some drivers.

Another surprise is the discreet 23rd place obtained by the electric car manufacturer Tesla , which, compared to last year, sinks seven places in the classification, being well below the average.

The reasons for this low rating would be associated with its dazzling but misleading technology for the customer, because it generates unpredictable failures in an electric car that by definition should be more reliable than traditional ones.
