Like all car manufacturers, Tesla regularly changes its catalog. Today, it is made up of four models: the Model 3, the Model Y, the Model S and the Model X. Versions, price, performance, autonomy, options… We take stock to better navigate.

In the electric mobility segment, Tesla is a very, very important manufacturer because of its technological lead over others and its bold communication. Sometimes difficult to follow and identify, the American company regularly updates its catalog according to the products it announces and/or modifies to better establish itself in a constantly changing market. Long positioned on the high end, Tesla has redistributed the cards by launching the more affordable Model 3. In 2021, the compact sedan has become even more accessible thanks to an attractive price drop. Then the company launched the Model Y.

Disappearance of models, change of name, deletion of options, modification of equipment, revision of prices, improvement of performance… From one month to another, the Model 3, Model S, Model Y and Model X ranges are turned upside down. And since Tesla often changes its commercial policy, it’s time to clarify what you can really buy and, above all, how much. Note that the company has decided to regularly increase the price of Autopilot, since it receives new features.

On October 16, 2020, Tesla announced changes for its cars, including the Model 3. On January 28, 2021, the Model S and Model X ranges received several major changes.

Note that Tesla also updates the configurators of the Model S, Model X, Model Y and Model 3 both for ergonomics and the readability of information.

Since July 1, 2021, the ecological bonus has evolved downwards. From now on, only cars sold for less than €45,000 – including options – benefit from a €6,000 rebate. It drops to 2,000 euros for those whose price is between 45,000 and 60,000 €. Beyond that, there is nothing. This means that only certain versions of the Model 3 are affected by this bonus. We think in particular of the basic model, which can be acquired for 37,800 €, once the discount has been applied

Model 3

Three versions for the Model 3

In Europe, the Model 3 was first offered in its most expensive versions. But Tesla quickly added a cheaper version. Today, the following are marketed: the Model 3 Standard Plus (€43,800) , the four-wheel drive Model 3 with a large battery (€52,990) and the Model 3 Performance (€59,990) . It’s the same catalog as in the United States.

In October 2020, the Model 3 received several upgrades, including the addition of a heat pump system (as on the Model Y), an automatically opening trunk, more efficient tires, exterior finishes (black rather than chrome) and software upgrades. This allows the sedan to offer even greater autonomy and to be always more refined.

Model 3 exterior customization

As standard, the Model 3 is offered in multi-coat pearl white. But you can opt for another color, for €1,190 (plain black, metallic night grey, multilayer red or metallic ultramarine blue).

As for the rims, you can replace the 18-inch ones with 19-inch Sport (+ €1,190). The Model 3 Performance gets special treatment with a free sports pack including 20-inch Uberturbine rims , Performance brakes, carbon fiber spoiler, aluminum pedals, lowered suspensions and circuit mode. All of these options are exclusive to Model 3 Performance and cannot be selected à la carte.

It is also possible to add a tow hook on the standard models, only on request (it is not in the configurator).

Note that the new Model 3s feature turn signal repeaters, door handles and exterior moldings in satin black (rather than silver).

Model 3 interior customization

The interior of the Model 3 is well equipped: heated leather seats, high-end audio system, glass roof and premium connectivity (for one year). If you feel like it, you can switch from black to white for €1,190.

A small clarification, however: the interior described as premium is associated with the most expensive Model 3s. Thus, the Model 3 Standard Plus, with a partial premium interior, is a little less well equipped.

The partial Premium interior includes :

  • Heated, electric and 12-position adjustable front seats;
  • Premium upholstery and finish;
  • Audio system with immersive sound;
  • Standard maps and navigation;
  • LED fog lights;
  • Center console with storage space, 4 USB ports and docking stations for 2 smartphones.

Premium interior includes :

  • Heated seats and electric front seats adjustable in 12 positions;
  • Premium audio system – 14 speakers, 1 subwoofer, 2 amplifiers and immersive sound;
  • Satellite maps with real-time traffic visualization;
  • Streaming media library;
  • Web browser ;

All interiors include :

Here are the latest developments made by Tesla :

  • Matte black finish, replacing the piano black finish;
  • Satin black door sills;
  • Graphite finish seat controls;
  • Metallic steering wheel controls;
  • Magnetic sun visors;
  • Redesigned center console;
  • Docking station with induction charging for two smartphones;
  • New storage compartment with sliding lid;
  • Ports USB ;
  • Two additional high-power USB-C ports for faster charging;
  • Additional USB-A port in the glove box, intended to accommodate Sentinel Mode and Onboard Camera storage devices.

Autopilot

On April 11, 2019, Tesla decided to make Autopilot standard equipment, meaning it’s built into all models. This is the old basic pack corresponding to the first level of assistance (braking, acceleration and steering in certain cases).

On February 5, 2021, Tesla decided to split its paid pack into two tiers. We now find the ‘Improved automatic pilot’, at 3,800 €, and the ‘Fully autonomous driving capability’, at 7,500 €.

Thus, the ‘Enhanced Autopilot’ brings together:

  • Navigation with Autopilot: driving assistance from the oncoming lane to the motorway exit (including on interchanges and for overtaking slower vehicles);
  • Automated lane changes on the highway;
  • Automatic parking in parallel and in battle;
  • Automatic exit from a parking space.

The ‘Fully Autonomous Driving Capability’ pack adds more advanced features, some of which will come later. It is he who will offer you 100% autonomous driving, when it is available – knowing that Europe restricts the benefits of Autopilot for safety reasons.

Model S

Two versions for the Model S

For a long time, Tesla differentiated its Model S with a number indicating the battery capacity. From now on, this is no longer the case and the manufacturer has finally adopted the nomenclature of the Model 3. Gone are the names 75D, 100D, P100D and hello the Model S Grande Autonomie, which has become Grande Autonomie Plus, and Performance. On September 22, 2020, on the occasion of the Battery Day conference, Tesla formalized a new, more powerful model: the Model S Plaid, equipped with three motors.

This Model S Plaid is finally part of a range with two models: the Model S Grande Autonomie and the Model S Plaid. They are based on the following improvements:

  • New Dual and Tri Motor powertrains, with permanent magnet motors;
  • New battery architecture with improved thermal performance;
  • New rims and new tires for improved performance, handling, efficiency and comfort;
  • Wider chassis and body on Model S for superior handling;
  • Heat pump;

Of course, the Model X received the same improvements as the Model S.

Model X exterior customization
